Tragic Accident in Balochistan: 28 Dead, 22 Injured as Bus Plunges into Ravine Near Quetta

Pakistan - Tragedy struck in Balochistan’s Washuk on Wednesday when a bus plunged into a ravine, resulting in at least 28 fatalities and 22 injuries, officials reported.

Basima Assistant Commissioner (AC) Ismail Mengal informed Dawn.com that the accident occurred when a tyre burst, causing the vehicle to crash into a hill before falling into the ravine. Among the deceased were three women and three children.

The bus, carrying 45 to 50 passengers from Turbat to Quetta, met with the accident around 5 a.m. Six passengers died on the spot, and the critically injured were quickly transported to medical facilities. The Basima Civil Hospital received the bodies and injured, with 22 more people succumbing to their injuries there.

Nine critically injured passengers were transferred to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Khuzdar. The Pakistan Army was called upon to airlift four other critically injured individuals to Quetta's trauma center via helicopter. The remaining injured are receiving treatment in local Washuk hospitals.

Communication challenges due to a lack of mobile network and nearby population caused a delay in Levies officials receiving information about the incident. However, rescue teams responded promptly upon notification.

Most of the deceased have not yet been identified, and efforts are underway with Gwadar administration to address this.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He directed officials to ensure the best medical care for the injured and prayed for their swift recovery.

National Party President Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch also expressed regret over the incident, highlighting the dangers of speeding buses and single-lane roads. He called for the construction of two-way roads in Balochistan and urged the government to adjust the budget accordingly. Baloch emphasized that negligence in addressing these issues could lead to further tragedies. The National Party stands in solidarity with the affected families, praying for the injured's speedy recovery.
